About us
The Goethe-Institut is the Federal Republic of Germany’s cultural institute, active worldwide. We promote the study of German abroad and encourage international cultural exchange. We convey a comprehensive image of Germany by providing information about cultural, social and political life in our nation. Our cultural and educational programmes encourage intercultural dialogue and enable a broad cultural involvement. With our network of Goethe-Instituts, Goethe Centres, cultural societies and language learning centres, we have been the first point of contact for many people with Germany for over sixty years.
The Goethe-Institut has a network of 95 libraries offering worldwide access to more than 2 million physical and digital media. We cooperate with other libraries and institutions, with the aim of fostering international professional exchange of expertise. Our translation funding programme supports foreign publishers in publishing works by German authors in another language.
